Week 9

This was the data set I am using.

During my research, I was surprised to learn that this is not the first time someone has examined their tinder swiping habits, with a UX designer from medium having given her data to a professional data analyst. This gave me some insights about how to examine my own data. But also gives me a lot of freedom as she never created any sort of tool to display this.

This was really interesting as it inspired me to include a couple of additional fields into my data set, such as key wording to describe my matches personality and style and whether or not I would be likely to match with them again.

This week was also all about examining my data to find further insights and correlations, to do this I began creating data and charts which examined the correlations between closely related fields, eg. How I rank a persons attractiveness on a scale of 1-5 and how I would describe their style. From these types of examinations, I created the following graphs:

By using a trend line throughout the examination of this histogram I can see the average age I swipe on is around 23 year olds.

During lockdown tinder allowed access to their tinder passport feature. In this feature users were able to place themselves anywhere across the globe, this was a feature I took advantage of, which is why I found this histogram interesting as it conveyed the diverse array of countries which my matches are from.

Initially I did this style of graph to display this data, but soon realised it was ineffective as it doesn't show which people who engaged opened with a pick up line, so I altered this graph to the one below:

I personally found doing this extremely insightful, as it encouraged me to determine which data I would deem to be relevant for the tool I could create as well as the data I feel I can omit. For example tinder already includes a distance and age filter in the initial swiping phase, so these are two modes of data which wouldn't hold the same importance.
